Driver impeller ( pump) mounted directly to the coupling’ s input shaft ( power source side) 2. Driven impeller ( turbine) mounted to the fluid coupling’ s output ( load side) 3. Cover attached to the driven impeller by an oil tight perimeter bolt flange The first two components listed above can act as either a pump or as a turbine, and these type couplings can handle input power up to 3, 400 horsepower ( 2, 500 kW) . Some of the advantages of the Constant Fill fluid couplings: » Very smooth start-ups » Absorbed current is reduced during the starting phase of an application; electric motors start with very low inertia loads » Protects the motor and load drive line from damage caused by load lock-up or overloads » Applications only require asynchronous squirrel cage motors rather than special motors with electronic soft start devices » An application’ s drive line has a longer life and more up-time when fluid couplings are used » Current demand peaks are reduced and also energy consumption when fluid couplings are used » When double delay fill chambers are used starting torque is reduced to as little as 120% » Torque transmitted out of a fluid coupling equals the torque into the coupling and the maximum torque from the motor can be applied even if the load is locked-up » Torsional vibration is absorbed in the fluid coupling because oil is the medium by which power is transmitted » These couplings can permit a high number of starts or load reversals if properly selected for the application » Automatically adjust load speed in a dual drive application and thus provide load balancing » Are assembled using high quality Viton seals and o-rings
